After an unfortunate mishap years ago, our garage door had been damaged, and it suddenly stopped working right as freezing temps, sleet, and snow rolled in. The door wouldn’t close, and we needed help fast. How often should I service my garage door?

We recommend it once a year. During a service call, we lubricate all moving parts, adjust spring tension, inspect cables and hardware for wear, test safety sensors, and make sure your door is balanced and operating smoothly.

Why Won't My Garage Door Close?

There could be several reasons why your door won't close, but the most common reason is misaligned safety sensors. Located near the floor on each side of your garage door are "photo-eye" sensors. These send an invisible beam from one to the other. If the beam gets broken or the sensors are bumped out of alignment, your door will automatically reverse to prevent injury. If checking the sensors doesn't do the trick, contact us. We'll perform a knowledgeable evaluation and get that door closed (and reopened) safely.

Should I fix my garage door or replace it?

If your door is relatively new and the problem is isolated, repairing your door will almost always be the best option. If your door is on the older side, has chronic problems, or if the repair will cost you nearly half of what a new door would, replacing your garage door will usually be your best bet. Either way, we'll provide you with an honest evaluation, and you can decide what to do.
