I needed the single garage door tension spring replaced with an upgrade to a dual spring. The door is about 11 years old and was getting harder to open. I contacted Two Brothers Garage Doors and Tyler called me the next day and we arranged for him to come out. It took him about 30 seconds to diagnose the issue. The door was actually rubbing against the house. He recommended an adjustment. I told him I still wanted to convert to two springs instead of the single spring that was on it. He concurred and recommended new nylon rollers as the ones I had on it were plastic. It took him about 30 minutes for the whole job and the door opens and closes like a new one! No hard sells - just clear and concise information. If you are in need of garage door service this is the company you want to call. He was on time, at a great price and I am totally satisfied! Can you even find parts for an old door?

Short answer: most of the time, yes. Springs, rollers, cables, hinges, and bearings don’t change much and we carry them stock. The tricky part is garage door panels. Paint colors and window styles change constantly, so finding an exact match for discontinued doors is possible but not guaranteed. We will never promise you something we can’t do, so if your door has an oddball panel we will tell you straight up instead of leading you on. And when we do, we always provide cost estimates for both repair and replacement so you can make an informed decision.

My door sticks every summer. Is that something you fix?

It can be. High humidity causes wood to swell, and that often leads to garage doors that suddenly bind up against the jamb or refuse to close all the way. Annoying, but usually an easy fix with adjustment to the opener’s travel and force settings plus a wipe down of exposed surfaces to reseal them. If the bottom panel has started rotting out or your door panels are separating at the seams, that’s a whole different problem.

Is approval needed before I put a new garage door in?

Not in most cases. Unlike a lot of East Austin neighborhoods, you will not have an HOA architectural review committee scrutinizing your home improvement choices. That being said, any structural work to your home (and yes, cutting your door opening too hard counts) will need to be permitted with the City of Austin. Replacing your garage door with the same size door does not require permits, so if it’s a straight-forward substitution we can take care of everything on our end. If you’ve got questions though we can help with that too.

How long does a tune-up take? And how often should I have one?

About thirty minutes. We think of it as preventative maintenance just like your car. Lubricate all the moving parts, inspect hardware for wear, verify safe operation of safety sensors, and confirm the door is balanced. Older doors especially can hide problems, and catching them during a tune-up is much cheaper than ignoring them until you need a new spring.

My garage door came off the TRACK! What do I do!

Stay away from it and call us. Trust us. You’ll break something (we guarantee it) and make the problem much worse in the process. We’ll come out and reset the door for you and diagnose what happened. 9 times out of 10 cables, worn rollers, or people closing the door with something in the way are to blame.
